The Shears Foundation have supported the Roots and Shoots Project at The Alnwick Garden for over 9 years. In this time their generous support has helped over 2000 young people from schools across Northumberland to benefit from hands on gardening and health education activities in our Roots and Shoots Garden, learning about healthy eating, the importance of physical activity and building their confidence in the nurturing and inspirational space within The Alnwick Garden.

The Alnwick Garden Roots and Shoots Project works with schools across Northumberland. Each school has a plot in our Roots and Shoots Community Garden. They attend the Garden for 4 sessions across six months, to learn about the growing process, to grow and tend to their plots and to learn more about where their food comes from. Sessions delivered in partnership with the NHS also provide information about healthy eating and active lifestyles.
